When I worked for larger companies, I was never too happy w/the way the United Way was pushed on employees. At one very large company I worked for, the goal for each office was 100% compliance and the pressure to comply was very high.
Now, it looks like the United Way in Los Angeles is using persistent spammer Hi-Speed Media to send PSAs via email.
